Hormone-Friendly Eating

Eat Well Without Deprivation

Hormone-friendly eating isn’t about giving up your favorite foods. It’s about making informed choices that support your body’s natural rhythms. By understanding how different nutrients affect your hormones, you can enjoy delicious meals while maintaining balance. It’s not about restriction; it’s about empowerment and enjoying the foods you love in a way that nurtures your body.

Waffle Roulette

A Fun Twist on Breakfast

Waffle Roulette is something we do for a fun Sunday brunch. We make each waffle a different flavor, adding things like blueberries, cherries, dried cranberries, nuts, chocolate chips, etc. Then you close your eyes and pick from the pile! (I admit we do make extras of the chocolate chip ones)

By prioritizing protein and fiber before indulging in a tasty treat, you can enjoy your breakfast without the guilt. This approach ensures that your blood sugar remains stable, allowing you to savor each bite while keeping your hormones in check. It’s a playful yet strategic way to enjoy your meals and maintain hormonal harmony.

Start with Protein

Kick off your meal by incorporating a good source of protein. This helps stabilize blood sugar levels and supports hormone balance, setting a solid foundation for enjoying your treats. You want to aim for 30g in breakfast. An egg has 6g so you’re likely going to want to add other things like turkey bacon, yogurt, a burger, collagen, etc.

I enjoy two strips of turkey bacon = 12g, two eggs = 12g, and goat yogurt 1/2c is about 5gm so I hit 29 there and I put another 6g worth of collagen in my tea or smoothie.

Add Fiber and Healthy Fats

Before indulging in sweets, include fiber-rich foods and healthy fats. These nutrients slow digestion and prevent rapid glucose spikes, keeping your hormones in check. Bonus points when your fiber is in the form of a green veggie.

Don’t shy away from veggies for brekkie. Add some green beans, spinach, even broccoli! I tend to add lemon, dill, light flavors in the summer. In the winter I tend towards garlic and hot sauce.

Move After Eating

Engage in some form of physical activity post-meal to aid in blood sugar regulation. A walk or a quick workout can enhance insulin sensitivity and help manage hormonal health.

I generally take the dogs out after breakfast for a hike then lift weights when I get back. I do try to lift after every meal. Of course when I’m in an endo flare just getting out of bed is the work out for the day. Listen to your body and honor her needs.

Strategic Indulgence

Enjoying your favorite treats doesn’t mean compromising on hormone health. By strategically planning your meals with protein, fiber, and healthy fats, you can savor your indulgences while maintaining hormonal balance. Incorporate movement into your routine to further support your body’s needs.

Balanced Enjoyment

It’s possible to relish your favorite foods without disrupting your hormonal harmony. Prioritize nutrient-dense foods and mindful movement to enjoy treats without the guilt or negative health impacts.

Smart Treating

Indulging in treats can be part of a healthy lifestyle when approached with intention. Focus on nutrient timing and physical activity to keep your hormones happy and your cravings satisfied.
